Pas President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang praised the impartial reporting of mainstream Chinese Media in which provided a space for Chinese to think.
If compared with the mainstream Malay press, the Chinese were able to think and evaluate the government's performance through news reports from the Chinese press, said Hadi Awang.
He pointed out that mainstream Malay newspapers read by Malays did not provide space for the Opposition and they could be said that 99% of their news reports were bias, leaving Malays with no space to think.
“Chinese media still have little free space but Malay papers are fully under control. How could this motivate Malays to think?
We are worried that media might lead to the constraint of Malay's thinking,” said the Pas president.
Therefore, Hadi Awang hoped to see the Malay's thinking to be on par with other races.
“If the though reform is not consistent, it would be like an imbalanced economic development that will widenthe gap between the races in the long term. And this will impact the overall development badly.”
He said Pas hoped to break the “wall” built by Umno around the media and to create a political environment which allows freedom of expression and promotes unity among races. (Sin Chew Daily)
